Description

ATCO Power is an international leader in developing, constructing, owning and operating power generating facilities in Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia.  We currently have a permanent opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer at our Fort McMurray facility. This is a challenging position at our Muskeg River Cogeneration Plant.

This position provides engineering expertise and leadership to ensure the long term availability and reliability of the facility’s mechanical systems and equipment such that the station can safely meet overall financial and operational targets.

 

Responsibilities
  • Optimizing plant systems and station performance; reviewing the suitability of plant mechanical systems under changing operational duties and making modifications as necessary.
  • Being a resource for operations and maintenance for troubleshooting and support, you will be expected to recommend design changes and offer operational solutions.
  • Taking an asset management view of the station and defining preventative and predictive maintenance, testing and surveillance requirements, as well as perform inspections on major components in accordance with standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Providing engineering and construction management project leadership and support for complex initiatives.
  • Ensuring ongoing safe facility operation and necessary compliance with all codes, standards and permits applicable.
  • Managing and coordinating plant outages and major equipment overhauls.
  • Actively planning inventory and the purchase of materials and equipment.
  • Managing existing site maintenance contracts.
  • Providing input into both station short and long term business planning and budget development.
  • Supervising the work force including planning, scheduling, performance evaluation, and employee development as well as mentoring junior engineers.
  • Supports reliable and accessible 24 hour engineering call out functionality.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from a recognized university in Mechanical Engineering and current registration with APEGGA as a Professional Engineer.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience, preferably related to power plant maintenance, industrial plants or refineries and within a field environment.
  • Strong project management experience.
  • Prior experience with project quotation life cycle from quote creation to vendor selection, management, reviews, awards, contracts and closing.
  • Knowledge of design and installation of pressure equipment, high energy piping and rotating equipment and associated regulatory requirements.
  • Gas turbine generators and/or steam turbine generator maintenance experience.
  • Boilers, air compressors, heat recovery steam generator experience is a strong asset.
  • Ability to use Computerized Maintenance Management Systems, Condition Monitoring Techniques, vibration monitoring and thermodynamic principles.
  • Proven, successful project management experience.
  • Past supervisory, leadership and mentorship experience is a strong asset.
  • Ability to work independently or as a part of a team.
  • Self starter with prioritization skills.
  • Flexibility and willingness to perform a variety of duties.
  • Strong interpersonal, problem solving and written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding work environment.
