Under the supervision of the Dispatch Supervisor and Deputy Fire Chief, the Dispatcher records the daily activity, incidents, reports and queries to the fire hall.

 

Afghanistan is recovering from armed conflict and is considered a “war-torn” country.  While hostilities have diminished, foreign military armaments, particularly land mines, are present throughout the country. You will be expected to conduct your duties and responsibilities within the confines of the Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan.  Both living and working conditions will not be to the standard you may be accustomed to.

Responsibilities
  • Record all incidents and dispatch all crews to the correct location of an incident.
  • Ensure that the correct information is given to the Platoon Chief at the time of the dispatch in a clear and precise manner.
  • Record all communications between the Platoon Chief and all other parties.
  • Log all calls, enquiries, incidents, vehicle movement and information or requests that may be given by a member of the FCRS.
  • Prepare and send work requests to the work reception as directed.
  • Carry out administrative work as may be detailed by the Fire Chief/Deputy Chief.
  • Prepare and send detailed reports on a daily, weekly basis to the respective personnel and Agencies.
  • Train, and be competent in the use of the FirePro and TMA systems.
  • Give briefings to ATCO management and other visitors when required.
  • Carry out audits on the incidents, training reports, maintenance and be able to show how the System works and records these incidents.
  • Ensure that the Dispatch office is run in a professional and courteous manner during your shift and that all of the above are performed to 100% of your ability.
Qualifications
  • Hold a valid civilian driver license and be able to obtain a KFA driver license.
  • Be Computer literate.
  • English as a first language and good Telephone manners.
  • Ability to get the correct information from a caller with the relevant facts as quickly as possible.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure, answering and responding to several calls at once.
  • Be proficient in the use of two way radios and the phonetic alphabet and proper voice procedure.
  • Be able to prioritize and anticipate who is needed to be called for what incident before been asked and have them notified of the incident.
  • Willing to learn the FirePro and TMA systems on the PC and any other training that has to be given.
  • Work as a team player in a small team.
  • Demonstrating initiative and utilizing time well, anticipating problems, and offering solutions; and executing effective time management by completing assignments on time or earlier.
